Thessaloniki’s Antiracist Festival began in 1998 in order to support immigrants and to unite the people no matter of their ethnicity, color, religion etc. In recent years it has also expanded its mission to cover issues related to social solidarity, worker’s struggles, movements to protect public services etc. The Festival takes place usually in the beginning of July for three days and many discussions, lectures, musical and artistic events take place.
During the lastest years that Festival is being hosted inside an old army camp that exists relatively close to the centre of Thessaloniki and very close to the Zeitenlik cemetery. The army camp was the old ‘Pavlou Mela’ army camp which has been abandoned and the citizens of Thessaloniki try to promote its use in order to become a Cultural Center and simultaneously Green Park for Thessaloniki.
If you happen to visit Thessaloniki during the same days the Antiracist Festival runs, we strongly recommend you to visit the Festival. It will open your horizons, give you incentives to think about social issues and of course provide you with plenty of entertaining material. If you also love Ethnic Cuisine do not miss the chance to eat various homemade Ethnic recipes provided by the Ethnic communities that live in Thessaloniki.
